Smoke detectors and carbon monoxide (CO) detectors are a must in every house, there should be one of each on every floor. They should be tested every month and the batteries should be changed twice a year (or every time you change your clocks for daylight savings time). Check the manufacturer's instructions for proper testing of your smoke and CO detectors. The only way to know if you have radon in your house or commercial building is to test for it, there is no detector.
