Air Quality in a building, both commercial and residential, is a very important and often overlooked consideration when it comes to safety in the buildings we work and live in. Poor air quality can have very negative effects on the people that occupy these spaces. An air quality testing professional has the right tools, equipment and experience to know what might be a concern for your particular building and how to properly test for it. Timing of tests and location of testing devices are also an area of expertise of an air quality professional.
An Amaze Restoration professional can help you with your air quality testing needs. Examples of air quality tests are: radon, carbon monoxide, asbestos, pollen, mold, smoke, moisture and volatile organic compounds (VOC's). Most tests can be administered by the building owner, and many test kits can be purchased online or at your local hardware store.
We ALWAYS recommend that air quality testing be performed by a certified professional, however if you insist on testing on your own always be sure to follow the instructions carefully and contact your local authority to ensure you are legally allowed to perform the testing (especially with asbestos). Smoke detectors and carbon monoxide (CO) detectors are a must in every house, there should be one of each on every floor. They should be tested every month and the batteries should be changed twice a year (or every time you change your clocks for daylight savings time). Check the manufacturer's instructions for proper testing of your smoke and CO detectors. The only way to know if you have radon in your house or commercial building is to test for it, there is no detector.
An air quality monitor can detect and log the air quality of your home. These devices typically detect tiny dust particles and other allergens, Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC's), moisture levels (for mold) and temperature. Here are some air quality testing kits and devices that can be delivered to your house:
